SEAFA 16U softball took off for Nationals in Lexington on Thursday, July 27. The team played three pool play games on July 27 and 28, to set up for bracket play.

Lexington 1

Sleepy Eye 0

The first game was a 1-0 loss to the Silver Bullets Extreme from the Lexington area. Sleepy Eye managed only two hits—one by Lexie Anderson and one by Molly Carnell.

Sleepy Eye 12

Fairmont 2

Game two was against Fairmont and Sleepy Eye came away with a 12-2 win. Jody Hansen slammed an in-the-park homerun and a triple. Kelsie Kosak added a double and Ali Beltz, Callie Bohnen and Emily Stevens each contributed a single.

Sleepy Eye 12

South Dakota Flash 0

Game three matched SEAFA up against the South Dakota Flash. Sleepy Eye won 12-0. The highlight of that game was an over the fence homerun (225 feet) blasted by Cassie Heinrichs. Heinrichs, Dani Weiss and Emily Stevens each had a double. Jody Hansen added two doubles and a single. Dani Weiss had two singles and Leah Weiss had one. That game ended pool play.

Thursday evening was set aside for skills competition and the parade of teams. Cassie Heinrichs competed in the homerun derby and sailed two over the fence. The speed relay for Sleepy Eye, consisting of Jody Hansen, Dani Weiss, Kelsie Kosak and Sara Zinniel, flew through the competition taking first place. This is the second year in a row that Sleepy Eye has grabbed that win. Kudos also to Molly Carnell and Leah Weiss who each pitched four and a half innings in the tournament and to Ali Beltz for catching eight and a half games.
