Proceeds to benefit Joe Huiras family and Dyskeratosis Congenita Outreach, Inc.

Now is the time to register for “Teeing off Against DC: The Second Annual Linus and Leonard Huiras Memorial Golf Tournament.” Family and friends are planning the event, sponsored by Mathiowetz Construction Company, to be held at the Sleepy Eye Golf Club on Saturday, Aug. 19.

This year one-half of all funds raised will be given to the Joseph Huiras Family to help in Joe’s battle against cancer. Joe is one of Leonard’s sons and is battling two kinds of cancer.

The other half of the funds will be given to Dyskeratosis Congenita Outreach, Inc., the non-profit group that supports families affected by the same disease that caused the deaths of twin brothers, Leonard, at age 37, and Linus, at age 43.

There is no cure for this extremely rare disease and treatment options are limited. Monies raised will help the group fund research, educate physicians and sponsor a family camp, which connects families across the world with others touched by this genetic condition.

Tournament play will be limited to the first 72 golfers, who will play in teams of four. Pre-registration is encouraged, as golf carts are limited. The Aug. 19 event begins with registration from 8 to 8:30 a.m., an 8:45 shotgun tee-off, lunch at 11 and awards and raffle drawing following play.
