The Sleepy Eye United boys golf team wrapped up day two of the Class A State Tournament at Sand Creek in Becker on Wednesday, June 14, finishing in third place.

The boys had a strong day two, building on the work they did in the first round on Tuesday. With 88 of the best golfers in the state in attendance, the competition was high. Ben Laffen finished in fourth place overall. He shot a 39 on the front nine and 41 on the back nine and finished with a two-day total of 155.

Caleb Christensen followed on his heels by one swing. Christensen had the better day at 39 and 38. His two-day score came to 156. Christensen tied with Brady Liebl from Mahnomen/Waubun for fifth place.

Thor Weiss came in 68th with a 46 and a 45 and a two-day score of 187. Logan Netzke placed at 70 with 54 and 46 and a two-day total of 187 as well. Parker Landkammer swung 45 and 50 for 189 and Josh Nelson got 47 and 58 for a 194.

The boys beat their record from last year, when they placed fourth at the State Tournament.

“We have had a fantastic year all around,” said coach Crystal Ibberson. “I am very proud of their accomplishments and am thankful for the opportunity to coach them.”
