BOLD 78

St. Mary’s 69

The Knights played a close game against the Warriors keeping within five to six points of their lead. Knight Anna Lux took the lead for her team scoring 18 points in the first half, four of which were three-pointers, and reaching her 1,000 point career milestone. The Knights went five for seven at the free throw line against the Warriors who were seven for 11 in the first half. Warrior Makenna Steffel became a big problem for the Knights putting up 20 points of her own keeping pace with Lux.

“All you can ask is that our kids play hard,” said coach Bruce Woitas. “And tonight they did that.” The Knights trailed 38-45 at halftime.

In the second half the Knights moved to regain some ground and keep the game close. Sydney Windschitl had a stong second half scoring 13 points. The Knights troubles began as they had fouls called on them and the Warriors got time at the free-throw line again. Jody Hansen fouled out of the game and BOLD managed a nine point win.

“We fought hard all night,” said Woitas. “But in the end we couldn’t get the edge.”

The Knights were led by Lux with 23 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Windschitl scored 22 points and five rebounds, followed by Cassie Heinrichs with 12 points and three rebounds.

“I know we came up short tonight,” Woitas said. “But I want to thank our four seniors Anna Lux, Megan Labat, Megan Ziegler and Jenny Lax for their great leadership all season long. They were great to coach.”
