The New Ulm Eagles girls hockey team traveled to New Prague to play the Trojans and then to Delano to play the Tigers in the first two rounds of sections playoffs.

The Eagles traveled to New Prague on Thursday, Feb. 9, to take on the Trojans for their first section tournament game.

The Trojans managed to score a goal towards the end of the first period. Eagle Elle Cooper responded with a goal of her own and the clock ran down.

New Ulm came into the second period hot and found the net three times to pull into the lead. Ashtyn Wiltscheck scored the first and last goal of the second period. Dani Weiss found the net in between Wiltscheck’s goals.

The Trojans opened the third period with a goal but never got past Karlie Ries, with 41 saves in the game, again. Weiss came down the ice and scored her second goal. Wiltscheck followed with her third goal of the game, notching a hat trick.

In spite of having a five game winning streak at the close of the season, the Eagles were not ready for the opponent that the Tigers turned out to be on Saturday, Feb. 11 in Delano.

The Eagles failed to score in the first period, but they did keep the Tigers from getting more than one goal. The Eagles continued to fail to get past Tiger goalie Karly Schmidt in the second period. Meanwhile, the Eagles switched goalie Cassie Reed for Karlie Ries.

The Tigers found their stride with Hannah Tormanen and Jamie Byrne both putting two goals into the net on Ries. The period ended with Tiger Rylan Bistodeau putting in a fifth goal, making the score 6-0, Tigers.

The third period came and went with the Eagles still not scoring a goal. The Tigers got one last goal by Anna Keranen. When the clock hit zero, Delano/Rockford was moving on and the season was over for the New Ulm Eagles.

The Eagles ended 19-3-4 on the season. Congrats on a well played season.
