Local organizers were pleased with the turnout at the Red Cross Blood Bank held at the Orchid Inn on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Committee members Jane Fischer, Linda Schueler, Bev Bartz and Rita Weiss reported their goal of 140 units was met.
Pins were awarded to Sandra Lund-seven gallons, Leon Tauer-eight gallons, Richard Trebesch-11 gallons, Joseph Sellner-13 gallons and Joleen Huiras-18 gallons.
Others in the community who helped make the blood drive a success included the City of Sleepy Eye, who allowed the use of the Orchid Inn and donated coffee; Arneson Distributing, who donated root beer; Schutz Family Foods, who donated carrots and celery; St. Mary’s CCW Y section, which served in the canteen; and the Herald-Dispatch and KNUJ/SAM promoted the blood drive. The many donors who came out to give blood on a cold winter day were the heroes of the day.
