Students at both high schools had the opportunity on Jan. 5 to attend a job fair to learn about next school year’s OJT (On the Job Training) positions. OJT, in its fifth year, has been developed by Sleepy Eye’s business leaders and high schools to help create pathways to employment and careers which exist in Sleepy Eye. The aim is to inform local students that they can look within their own community for career opportunities—right out of high school or after they’ve completed college. OJT placements are open to next year’s juniors and seniors. Participating businesses and city departments include Anytime Fitness, BIC Graphic, Christensen Farms, First Security Bank, Haala Industries, Kibble Equipment, Mark Thomas Company, Miller Sellner, Schwartz Farms, Sleepy Eye Chamber of Commerce, Sleepy Eye City Office and EDA, Sleepy Eye Herald-Dispatch, Sleepy Eye Medical Center, Sleepy Eye Online, Sleepy Eye Public Utilities, SouthPoint Financial Credit Union, VOA—Sleepy Eye Senior Living Campus and Zinniel Electric.
