Sleepy Eye Medical Center welcomed Sleepy Eye’s first baby of 2017 on Thursday, Jan. 5. Baby girl, Janie Rowe Pelzel, was delivered by Dr. Karlyn Armbruster at 5:51 p.m., weighing five pounds, 12 ounces and measuring 18 inches. Proud parents are Dr. John and Geri Pelzel of Sleepy Eye.

Janie was welcomed with much excitement and love by her siblings, Kylie, 7, Miles, 5, and Josie, 1. Grandparents are Mike and Tammy Carr and Wayne and Pattie Pelzel of Sleepy Eye.

“We’re so happy to have her here,” said Geri Pelzel. “It’s awesome to see how excited our other kids are to have another sibling.”

While big brother Miles stated that there are “too many girls” in the family, he was quick to list his favorite things about having a baby sister.

“She gives you high-fives, and you can give her hugs,” said Miles. According to Miles, he’s already received two high-fives from Janie.

“I’m looking forward to holding her,” added big sister Kylie. “She’s so cute.”

Geri is a teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic School, and John is a physician at Sleepy Eye Medical Center.

“We’ve been very happy with our care here. I am honored to have my partners partake in the care of my family,” said Dr. Pelzel.

Many Sleepy Eye businesses, including Sleepy Eye Medical Center, Arneson Distributing Co., McCabe’s ACE Hardware, Randy’s Family Drug & Gift, Schutz Family Foods, Schweiss Meats, Sleepy Eye Herald-Dispatch and SouthPoint Financial Credit Union, contributed gifts to Janie and her parents—a local tradition.
