Springfield 6, St. Mary’s 0

Behind the shut out pitching of Brandon Flock, the Springfield Tigers shut down the St. Mary’s Knights 6-0 in Springfield Thursday evening. In double elimination play, the Knights live to play again on Saturday in Mankato.

Flock took command on the mound at the start and held that command until he issued a couple walks in the seventh. He was relieved by Tanner Vogel who got the final out. Flock struck out nine Knights batters and allowed only three hits.

Alex Sellner took the loss for the Knights, but really pitched pretty well. He scattered seven hits over six innings and struck out four Tigers’ batters. The Tigers’ aggressive base running, effective bunting and a few hits made the game winning difference.

Nick Labat, Sean Salfer and Jared Beltz had the three Knights’ hits.

“I give Springfield a lot of credit. They took advantage of every chance to score runs. We will bounce back,” said Coach Woitas.

BOLD 15, St. Mary’s 6

The Knights baseball season came to an end Saturay at Franklin Rogers Park in Mankato when they were defeated by the BOLD Warriors 15-6. This game ended the Knight’s Section 2A run and ended their season at 13-10.

The game was 4-3 after the first, BOLD picked up four more in the second, the Knights added two in the third and another in the fifth inning to keep the game close. But then BOLD had a six run inning in the sixth that put the game away.

Coach Woitas said, “I want to thank our five seniors for their leadership all season long and for sharing their love for the game of baseball with us all.”

Nick Labat led the Knights with three hits while Woitas, Berg and Salfer each added a hit. Windschitl, Strate, Woitas and Labat all pitched for the Knights and combined picked up six strikeouts and gave up 10 hits.
