  • The River Valley Wildcats fell to two of the top teams in the section.

On Aug. 29, the Wildcats hosted St. James where they lost 0-7.

The Saints showed why they are a top favorite in the section with two shut-out matches, only allowing River Valley to win a total of nine games in singles. The closest matches were at No. 4 singles, where freshman Hannah Himmelman won four games in her first set but lost 2-6 in the second. Meanwhile, the No. 3 doubles team of Sara Haugo and Karlie Ries won their first set 6-4 but lost a close second set and recording just three points in the supertiebreaker.

The Wildcats had much better luck on Sept. 2, when they traveled to Fairmont. Himmelman was the only singles player to win a match, but River Valley had strong doubles play as the No. 2 and No. 3 were dominant. After the matches were tied 3-3, the deciding match came down to the No. 1 doubles team of Erica Ries and Natalie Stevens, who battled out two back-and-forth sets, tying them both at 6-6 but losing both of them in the tiebreakers.
