  • Two sessions of the State Leadership Conference for Chapter Leaders (SLCCL) had over 180 members from across Minnesota in attendance. The conference was held at Deep Portage Conservation Reserve near Hackensack, July 13-19. The purpose of SLCCL is to help students develop leadership skills to bring back to their chapters and communities.
Five members from the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter attended SLCCL this year including Lauren Laffen, Jeni Kotten, Harley Braun, Ken Capacia and Natalie Konopka.
This exclusive conference is designed for FFA members who are outstanding within their chapters. The members from across the state represent all of the unique regions of agriculture and the FFA. During the conference, students are able to communicate with these members and share ideas about how to better both their chapters and communities.
Outside of the sessions presented by the state officers, there was also time for members to bond during activities such as volleyball, hiking, canoeing and cabin chats each night. At the end of each day, there was time for reflection, to go over all that had been learned and how to bring that knowledge back to each respective community.
“It was so amazing to be able to take ideas from other chapters and bring them back to improve Sleepy Eye FFA,” commented Lauren Laffen on her experience at camp.
“It was a great experience learning about leadership, making lasting friendships and getting other chapter’s ideas on service in their communities,” said Jeni Kotton.
