  • The Sleepy Eye Indians amateur baseball team fell 4-1 to Lamberton on July 9 in Sleepy Eye.

It was a game of missed opportunities and unlucky circumstances for the Indians. Sleepy Eye connected with the ball throughout the game, but the ball was hit directly toward the outfielders which kept any Indians from getting on base. Sleepy Eye was also caught stealing bases on a couple of occasions.

The pitching duel between Sean Mathiowetz and Lamberton’s Brady Bierl broke in the fourth inning, when the Longsox scored on a few hits plus a missed catch in right field. Lamberton recorded another run in the sixth off of a RBI double to take a 2-0 lead.

The Indians were finally on the board in the bottom of the sixth, after Zach Salfer hit a single RBI to bring in Jake Bohnen. However, Lamberton had a RBI single of its own in the eighth inning and scored another in the ninth off of a couple of doubles to seal the deal.

Mathiowetz threw four strikeouts, two walks, and three runs on seven hits. Both teams recorded nine hits in the game but Sleepy Eye had two more errors.
