There are some pretty cool events coming up here in Sleepy Eye that you should go to.
This Saturday, City Limits is celebrating its new patio with a bean bag tournament. $50 can get you into the tournament as well as a t-shirt and all-you-can-drink and eat. How awesome is this? Bean bag toss is one of my favorite recreational summer games to play. It’s fun, it’s simple, and yet it can still get super competitive. I usually take it way too seriously, and laugh at my opponents when they can’t even hit the board. In reality, I’m not that great at it myself.
A day later is John Mangen’s Memorial Day event at the ballpark. July 20 would have been John’s 19th birthday and therefore Sleepy Eye is holding a day full of baseball at the park in his memory. Most of the Sleepy Eye baseball teams will be playing, so be sure to come out, buy a hamburger and a beer or two, and watch some baseball.
Two days after that, (July 22) will be the NU-Telecom Rocks event, which is basically a customer appreciation lunch at the Sleepy Eye location. I can never pass up a free lunch opportunity so you can count on me being there.
That same day is Music in the Park at Allison Park. From 6:30 to 8 p.m. there will be music from Heide & the Good Ole Boys and of course the best root beer in the world will be available.
1919 Root Beer will also be available two days after that, on July 24 for the annual Party in the Park event, also at Allison Park. I really enjoyed this event last year as there are so many things to do. There are also a lot of food options which is a plus.
Before we know it, it will be August which means munching down on some mini donuts at the Brown County Free Fair and biting into a butter-soaked corn on the cob at Corn Days.
