The John Mangen Memorial Day baseball event will take place this Sunday, July 20 at Eagles ball park.
In remembrance of Mangen and what would have been his 19th birthday, four baseball games will take place during the event. The Sleepy Eye Rookies will kick off the event at 10 a.m. with a game versus Leavenworth. At noon, the Sleepy Eye Coach Pitch team will take on Stark, and at 2 p.m. the Sleepy Eye 12 and under team will play. The night will end with an amateur game between the Sleepy Eye Indians and the Stark Longhorns. The game will begin at 5 p.m. and will be broadcasted on KNUJ radio.
T-shirts will be available for purchase all day, as well as concessions. There is no charge fo the event, but free will donations will be accepted. All money raised will go toward the John Mangen scholarship, which will be given annually to a senior baseball player from both Sleepy Eye Public and St. Mary’s schools.
