  • Sleepy Eye VFW Blue took on Sibley East in a double header in Leavenworth on Saturday, June 21.

Neither team could get much offense going until the third inning.

Sibley started the top of the third with a walk, followed by several singles to load the bases. Austin Fischer would hit the next batter to score a run for Sibley as they take a 1-0 lead.

Sleepy Eye responded in the bottom of the third with a single by Kodan Kosak to get things started. Kosak would steal to put himself in scoring position and Jaden Mickelson hit a RBI single to send him home and tie the game at 1-1.

Sleepy Eye got things going again in the fifth inning with a hit by Sean Salfer. Matt Mielke followed with another single to put runners on first and second. A well placed bunt by Kosak moved both runners into scoring position. A Sibley East error scores both runners for Sleepy Eye. Another RBI from Sam Tessmer put Sleepy Eye up 4-1 and that would be the final score.

The second game of the doubleheader wasn’t as close. Both teams started off hot scoring three runs each in the first inning.

Sleepy Eye’s three runs came off hits from Jaden Mickelson, Nathan Schroepfer and a walk by Jared Beltz to load the bases. Austin Fischer, Sean Salfer and Matt Mielke all singled to score the three runs.

Sibley East scored one run in the top of the second taking a 4-3 lead but that is the last time Sibley would lead Sleepy Eye in the ball game.

Two runs came in the second inning for Sleepy Eye off RBIs from Jared Beltz and Dylan Klein. Sleepy Eye left the second inning up 5-4.

Sibley failed to score any runs in the top of the third inning but Sleepy Eye would score a couple more.

Kosak would walk with one out and Jaden Mickelson is hit with a pitch. A sac-fly from Sam Tessmer would score one. A passed ball scored another run for Sleepy Eye.

The flood gates would open for Sleepy Eye in the fourth inning. A Beltz single got things started for Sleepy Eye. He was followed by two more singles from Klein and Fischer to load the bases. A walk scores one for Sleepy Eye and leaves the bases full. Mielke hits a RBI single to give Sleepy Eye a 9-4 lead. The bleeding wouldn't stop there for Sibley as another walk would add another run to the board for Sleepy Eye. Mickelson hits a 2-run double to put the score at 12-4 with no outs. Another sac-fly by Tessmer scores one followed by a passed ball to make the game 14-4. A RBI by Klein later in the inning would make the game 15-4 and that would be the final score in five.
