  • SE golfers have good showing at state tournament

  • Sophomore Lauren Laffen and senior Karrah Remus both competed at the State golf tournament in Becker, Minn. on June 10-11 for the second straight year.

  • Sophomore Lauren Laffen and senior Karrah Remus both competed at the State golf tournament in Becker, Minn. on June 10-11 for the second straight year.
    Both golfers were looking to improve on great performances last season at the state tournament.
    As a junior, Karrah shot a 99 the first day of the tournament at a 103 the second day to finish 44th overall in last year’ tournament.
    As just a freshman, Lauren finished in second place last year after shooting 87 the first day of the tournament and 80 the second.
    Both girls had strong seasons and played well enough to make it back to the state tournament again this year.
    Lauren started off great June 10 in the first round of the tournament shooting a 38 on the front nine and a 41 on the back nine to finish the day with a 79 and tied for the tournament lead.
    Karrah also started well with a 51 on the front nine and 48 on the back to come in with a 99 on the day.
    The scores remained good through the second day with Lauren shooting a 93 to finish the tournament in seventh place.
    Karrah improved on her score from the first day and shot a 97 to finish 43rd.
    The Sleepy Eye golf team will lose Karrah next year but will bring back some great talent, including Lauren.
    Christine Piwnica of Southwest Christian won the Class A tournament for girls with an overall score of 159, 13 stroke ahead of Lauren.
    Abby Herding of Westbrook-Walnut Grove came in second with a score of 168 followed by Kailey Carlin of Fosston and Keira Smith of Heritage Christian Academy with 169.
