  • Random acts of kindness took place in Sleepy Eye throughout the day, Monday, June 16, culminating with a free supper and concert in the evening.
The Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) ministry tour began with a youth group at Celebration Church in Lakeville. Eventually it was birthed into a life-changing tour that has been taking place for the past five years.
A group of about 30 students travel to communities across America in need of hope and encouragement. The students, working Monday with the local Sleepy Eye Celebration Church, built relationships with each other and the community as they washed dirty vehicles, picked up trash around the Sleepy Eye Lake Trail and mowed people’s lawns–all for free.
Monday evening the students hosted a concert offering free food, testimonials, hope, encouragement and music at Sleepy Eye Elementary Public School.
“One of the main ways we have chosen to show the love of Christ to others is by serving them and loving them without strings attached, especially at our free car washes,” Gitzel said. “We do not accept donations. We want these things to be truly free. This opens the door for personal conversations with people and that’s why it is so effective.”
Celebration Church and the RAK ministry that stems out of it firmly believe in planting seeds.
“The whole heart behind RAK is to follow the vision of the church to love God and love people,” Gitzel said. “RAK is a perfect example to loving people because Jesus performed random acts of kindness with no hidden agendas. We are doing this simply to show our love.”
Monday was the third day of the RAK 10-day tour. Monday night group drove overnight to Sidney, Nebr., where the headquarters of Cabela's is located. Following their time in Sidney, RAK ministry will travel to Colorado.
