  • “Learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, and living to serve” is the motto of the FFA.

They are twelve words that make a large impact in the lives of many FFA members. Over the course of the year, 61 Sleepy Eye FFA members have participated in the Adopt-A-Senior program with residents at the Divine Providence, the Sleepy Eye Care Center, and the Countryside Retirement Community in Sleepy Eye.

With the Adopt-A-Senior program, FFA members develop relationships with others of a different generation, helping the FFA members grow as individuals. The Sleepy Eye FFA chapter created and delivered cards for their senior citizen as well as provided prizes and called the numbers for three bingo events this year at the Care Center and Countryside.

Twenty one members participated in the last Bingo event, which took place on May 21. In addition to that, the Sleepy Eye FFA also had 15 members gather at the Care Center to plant flowers on May 20.

“Living to serve” is the last part of the FFA motto and words that the Sleepy Eye FFA Members strive to live by.
“The FFA members really enjoy making the cards for the residents, planting flowers at the nursing home, and playing bingo with the residents of Countryside and the Care Center. For some of our members, it is their favorite FFA activity!” said Mary Hoffmann, FFA advisor.
The FFA plans to continue this program in the future as well as expand to doing more activities at Divine.
