In an almost repeat of last year, sophomore Lauren Laffen and senior Karrah Remus will once again be competing for a state title after advancing through the Section 2A Meet which took place on June 2 at North Links Golf Course in Mankato.

Only the top five individuals on the boys and girls sides advanced. Fortunately for Laffen, two of the girls in the top five were from United South Central, which qualified as a team so these individuals didn’t count toward the top five. Therefore, Laffen barely made the cut as she scored a 99 in the meet. Meanwhile, Remus solidified her spot at state with a score of 94 which was the fourth best score of the meet.

Along with Remus and Laffen, Sarah Rossbach, Sarah Surprenant, Anna Miller, and Alyssa Rubey also competed in the section meet. Out of the bunch, Miller was the closest to qualifying after shooting a 107 on the par 72 course.

Meanwhile, the St. Mary’s boys qualified to compete at the section meet as a team. Sophomores Ryan Heinrichs and Kyle Strate recorded the best scores for the Knights, each shooting a 97. However, the top five scores were much lower, with the top score going to Cordell Weber of Martin County West, who shot a 73.

For Sleepy Eye Public, Caleb Christensen and Ben Laffen competed. B. Laffen scored a total of 87, which was just one stroke away from qualifying.

The duo of Remus and L. Laffen, along with Emily Curtis, made it to the state meet last year where Curtis took 10th, and Remus took 44th. Meanwhile, L. Laffen took second place last year and hopes to find herself with a state title this year.
