Sleepy Eye Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of a new doctor.

Dr. John Pelzel has agreed to a contract to join the medical staff of Sleepy Eye Medical Center (SEMC) in August 2014 to practice family medicine. He currently is completing his Family Medicine Residency at Health East St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, where he also served as House Officer, responsible for acute status changes, the rapid response team and as a code physician.

“We are very pleased that Dr. Pelzel will join us in August,” said Kevin Sellheim, CEO and administrator, SEMC. “His experience in the full scope of family medicine including inpatient, outpatient, emergency medicine and obstetrics will be a welcome addition to the medical services we can offer to our community. Further, bringing Dr. Pelzel on board shows how committed we are to building for the future of SEMC to ensure continued excellence in serving our clients.”

Dr. Pelzel is the son of Wayne and Pattie Pelzel of Sleepy Eye. He and his wife Geri have two children, daughter Kylie and son Miles. Geri is the daughter of Mike and Tammy Carr of Sleepy Eye.

“Geri and I are excited about the opportunity to live and work in Sleepy Eye and to raise our children here,” said Dr. Pelzel. “We believe that Sleepy Eye is a strong community with excellent schools and a very good healthcare system provided by SEMC. We are looking forward to moving home.”

Dr. Pelzel graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 2001, the University of Minnesota with a BS in biology in 2006, and is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School in 2011.
