The Sleepy Eye Unified track and field team competed in the sub-section meet on May 22.

Senior Andy Steffl broke the school record in discus, throwing a distance of 139 feet and eight inches in the finals. Steffl is one of 10 athletes who will compete in the section meet this Saturday in Mankato for a chance to compete at the state tournament in June. Coach Kris Bloedel said she was proud of the way her team performed at the meet.

“Most of the athletes recorded their best performances of the year today,” Bloedel said. “As coaches we can't ask for more than that. When they get to the qualifier meets you want them performing their best and they did.”
