The Sleepy Eye Public baseball team gave Mankato Loyola its first loss of the season on April 25 after a late comeback carried the Indians to the on-the-road win.

The Sleepy Eye Public baseball team gave Mankato Loyola its first loss of the season on April 25 after a late comeback carried the Indians to the on-the-road win.

 

The Crusaders got the bats going right away in the first inning, getting multiple hits which led to a three run lead. The Indians responded in the second inning with three runs of their own, but Loyola took a 6-3 lead in the next half inning with three more runs.

 

After scoreless fourth and fifth innings, Sleepy Eye picked up some final momentum and scored three crucial runs to take a two-run lead in the sixth. The Indians took advantage of a few errors made by the Crusaders to get on top. Sleepy Eye’s defense stayed strong in the final two innings, only allowing one run to take the game 8-7.

 

Sophomore Kolten Nienhaus led the Indians after going 3-for-3 at bat and hitting two RBI. He also scored two runs. Behind him was sophomore Austin Fischer, who went 2-for-4 and one RBI.

 

Sleepy Eye moves to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the Tomahawk Conference.
