  • Sleepy Eye FFA shines at Region competition

  • On Monday, April 14, several Sleepy Eye FFA CDE teams and individuals traveled to South Dakota State University to compete at the Region VI contest. Although it was a blustery day, the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter was able to shine. At the competition, three Sleepy Eye teams and an individual earned trips to compete at the Minnesota State FFA Convention which will be held from April 27-29.

  • On Monday, April 14, several Sleepy Eye FFA CDE teams and individuals traveled to South Dakota State University to compete at the Region VI contest. Although it was a blustery day, the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter was able to shine. At the competition, three Sleepy Eye teams and an individual earned trips to compete at the Minnesota State FFA Convention which will be held from April 27-29.
     
    Taking first overall was the Dairy Evaluation team from Sleepy Eye. Three members of the team placed in the top 10. Mary Rosenhammer placed first overall, Isabella Portner placed second overall, and Sabrina Portner placed sixth. Bethany Seifert also competed on the team. The Dairy Evaluation CDE team will compete during the state convention.
     
    Placing second overall in their competition was the Dairy Foods team from Sleepy Eye. Harley Braun led the way for the team, placing fourth overall. Other members of the team include Miranda McMullen, who placed sixth overall, Marisa Martinez, Stephanie Hammerschmidt and Courtney Engholm. The Dairy Foods team also qualified for the state competition.
     
    New to Sleepy Eye FFA this year was a Meats CDE team. The team, consisting of Jamie Fischer, Ken Capacia and Wyatt Kosmatka, qualified for the state competition. Fischer was the top scorer on the team.
     
    Competing in the Dairy Handler competition were Rebecca Rosenhammer and Jeni Kotten. Rosenhammer placed fourth overall and will advance to the state competition.
    The General Livestock team from Sleepy Eye also competed at the region contest. Johnny Rosenhammer, Natalie Sellner, Ally Helget and Matt Berkner were the members of the team.
     
    These events are constructed to assist members in preparation for a career in agriculture. They test students’ knowledge on the subject as well as their technical, leadership and teamwork skills. Sleepy Eye will have 11 teams and 1 individual competing at the State Convention in St. Paul in April.
