  • The Sleepy Eye Public softball team is now 3-0 on the season after wins over GFW and MVL.

On April 10, the Indians were on the road as they took on Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop. Both teams played well defensively, but it was junior McKayla Ahlrich who was the winning pitcher. Ahlrich threw seven strikeouts and only allowed two walks and two total hits in the game to lead Sleepy Eye. This gave the Indians plenty of opportunities at bat.

Junior Jamie Wells went 1-for-3 and had one triple and scored one run. Meanwhile, Senior Carly Jensen scored a run and hit one double. Sophomore Natalie Stevens went 1-for-1 at the plate, hitting an RBI and also scoring a run. The Thunderbirds were able to score a single run but to no avail as Sleepy Eye went on to win 4-1.

On April 15, the Indians traveled to Minnesota Valley Lutheran where they won 5-2.

It was a long and cold night for both teams, as the score was tied at two in the seventh inning which put the game into extra innings. The game finally came to an end in the eighth and ninth innings when Sleepy Eye mustered up three more runs.

Ahlrich once again led on the mound, throwing down five strikeouts, five hits, and just two runs. Senior Sammy Villanueva went 2-for-5 at bat, hitting one RBI and scoring two runs. Other top performers include sophomore Josie Schieffert, who hit a double. Jamie Fischer, Carly Jensen, and Wells all had hits as well.
