  • Woman, 50, dies from injuries in New Ulm fire

  • Authorities said a 50-year-old woman who was rescued from a fire in New Ulm on Thursday, Feb. 27, later died from her injuries.
     
    According to a report from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, the New Ulm Fire Department was called to a fire at about 9:28 p.m. Thursday on the 100 block of Center Street in New Ulm. When authorities arrived, several occupants of the building had to be rescued from the main floor.
     
    Fire crews rescued a woman, later identified as Darcy Mary Moldan, 50, from her second story bedroom. She was taken to New Ulm Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.
     
    The cause of the fire is under investigation by the New Ulm Fire Department with assistance from New Ulm Police and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
     
    Darcy Mary Hillesheim was born on Dec. 9, 1963 in Kearny, N.J., to Francis and Marie (Giammetta) Hillesheim. She was a nurses aide at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
