The Sleepy Eye Herald Dispatch
  • Mardi Gras in Sleepy Eye

  • The evening of Jan. 22 was the annual Chamber meeting and despite the cold and wind we had a great turnout at the Eagles Orchid Inn! The evening was filled with fun and games, silent auction, awards, a speech by our Miss Sleepy Eye, Maddy Helget, and a brief business meeting.

The Chamber of Commerce awards three people recognition of their time and talents in the form of The Big Chief award, the Extraordinary Volunteer and the Shining Star. Recipients of these awards were honored at the meeting.
The Big Chief Award recognizes the Ambassador who has the best attendance at Ambassador events. This year's recipient was Mark Kober.
The Extraordinary Volunteer award recognizes a person who has dedicated their time and talents to helping the community and Chamber. Kathy Haala of First Security Agency was honored with this award for her years of dedication to so many.
The final award given out that evening is the Shining Star, which recognizes an individual or individuals for volunteering, has a positive attitude and takes pride in our community. This year's recipient of that award was Mary Hoffmann and the Sleepy Eye FFA.
The nominations for the Shining Star and Extraordinary Volunteer come from the peers of the Chamber membership which makes the recognition even more special.
The Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to another year of similar events like the Chamber Golf Tournament, Party in the Park, Buttered Corn Days and Safety Day Camp. In addition, watch for some new and exciting leadership and educational workshops this year as well!
