Each month the Sleepy Eye FFA features a Member of the Month. The members who are featured are asked a series of questions relating to their experiences in FFA. This month the Sleepy Eye FFA has chosen to feature CristalRose Longoria, David Jasso, Macy Schenk and Officer of the Month Matt Miller.

This month the Sleepy Eye FFA has chosen to feature CristalRose Longoria, David Jasso, Macy Schenk and Officer of the Month Matt Miller.
Members of the Month
CristalRose Longoria is a sophomore and has participated in FFA for the past two years.
She said she joined FFA because it is always something she wanted to do.
She is a member of the Career Development Event (CDE) Small Animals and Horse Judging teams where she says they learn different things about animals including the different breeds of dogs, cats, birds, and fish.
CristalRose says she can’t chose just one favorite FFA activity because there are too many to choose.
Something she says she is looking forward to the most this year is helping out with Party in the Park.
She has learned how to be a leader and learned many different things in FFA including the importance of community service.
Awards that CristalRose has earned that she is most proud of area Greenhand degree. She is determined, she said, to achieve more awards.
David Jasso is a sophomore who has participated in FFA for the past three years.
He joined FFA, he said, because he wanted to learn more about FFA. His Favorite FFA Activity has been the Adopt a Senior program and playing Bingo at the nursing home.
Something he would like to try in FFA is presenting for the Safety Program and attending Timberland Leadership Camp.
He says he has learned how to weld and how to take care of animals in FFA.
Awards he is most proud of earning include being name a Member of the Month and the Freshmen Leadership Award.
Macy Schenk is in seventh grade and her first year in FFA.
She joined FFA, she said, because she loves to learn about farming. Her favorite FFA activity is the Crop Show.
Something she would like to try in FFA is being a part of the Horse CDE Team. She said she has learned a lot about the breeds of dairy cattle and swine while she has been an FFA member.
Awards she has earned that she is most proud of include Champion Oats for the Crop Show and other ribbons for my corn and bean crop samples.
Officer of the Month
Matt Miller is a junior and has been an FFA member for the past four years.
He joined FFA, he said, because all of his friends told him how awesome FFA was.
Her currently owns the office of Treasurer. What he likes about his officer position is that he is able to help plan chapter events and work with other officers to better the local chapter. He is also a member of the Soils CDE team where he says he likes learning about the types of soils found all over the state of Minnesota. CDE has become his favorite activity.
Something Matt is looking forward to the most this year is competing at the State Convention.
His years in FFA have taught him that agriculture is very diverse and not limited to just farming. There are many career opportunities available in agriculture.
Awards that he has earned that he is most proud of include placing first in state with the poultry team and 11th at the National competition.
