  • Throughout the holiday season the Sleepy Eye Yes! Team has been sponsoring a holiday lights collection.

Yes! Team members canvased the town and collected old and unused Christmas lights to be recycled on Dec. 2.

The collection will take place until mid-January so residents can drop off lights at Sleepy Eye Public and St. Mary’s school offices, at Schutz Family Foods and Ace Hardware. Rural Sleepy Eye residents can also participate by dropping off lights at Brown County R.E.A.

Recycle Your Holidays is a one-of-a-kind statewide holiday light recycling program in Minnesota created and managed by the Recycling Association of Minnesota (RAM). Drop off unwanted light strings at any of our 450+ participating locations during the holiday season starting Nov. 15 through the end of January each year.

The program is promoted statewide in partnership with WCCO, Great River Energy, Ace Hardware stores, and CERTS (Clean Energy Resource Teams). It employs over 200 individuals with disabilities at vocational centers throughout the state of Minnesota. Every part of the strand is dismantled by vocational center clients and properly recycled locally.

Locally lights are taken to MRCI in New Ulm and Mankato. What MRCI cannot handle will be picked up and delivered to other facilities.
