  • This time of year should be joyful. But for many, the holidays bring sadness with losses of loved ones making it difficult to find joy in the Christmas season.
It's never easy to lose someone we love, but when we think of where they are now, we should feel great happiness for them and comfort ourselves knowing they are now in God's care.
I understand the loss of someone I loved dearly when my Grandma Schmitz died on Christmas Day morning.
When I remember Grandma, I think of all the things she taught me. Grandma had a quiet presence about her. She wasn't boisterous or loud but she had a great laugh and a warm and wonderful smile. I can still see her in my memories even today as she would have one grandchild on her lap and play concentration or go fish with several others for hours.
Christmas Day, 1999 Grandma went to be with the Lord and Grandpa. She was getting ready for breakfast when she felt lightheaded and lay down on her bathroom floor and quietly left her earthly life for something much better.
Although we may not see those we loved and miss deeply, we can feel their presence around us. If we truly look for signs or listen with a quiet and content heart, they are there. It's their way of "checking in" on us, making sure we are "all right."
Although I have asked God why many times over the years, He has never left me. On more than one occasion I have felt His unwavering love and grace guiding my thoughts and prayers.
This Christmas season, I wish you much joy in your heart as you experience Christ's love and grace for you and your family. Safe travel wherever this Christmas takes you. Never forget, Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Listen to the children tell you about their Jesus, the one who was born for all. God Bless you with a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.
Thought for the week: Love has its own time, its own season, and its own reasons for coming and going. You cannot bribe it or coerce it or reason it into staying. You can only embrace it when it arrives and give it away when it comes to you.– Kent Nerburn.
