    It was an exciting win for the St. Mary’s boys basketball team on Dec. 17 in Sleepy Eye.
     
    It was a fast paced game from the start as both teams fought for the early advantage. After a 9-9 tie, the Rabbits took a small lead and held on to it for the rest of the half. With 3:23 to go, St. Mary’s trailed 22-27. The Knights were able to score a few more points than Wabasso toward the end of the first, but the Rabbits had a 34-31 lead at halftime. Junior Payton Adams led the team in points in the first half with 12.
     
    The second half was just as intense as the first. St. Mary’s stepped up its offense and tied the game at 65 with just over four minutes left. After a couple back-and-forth leads, the Knights had a 70-69 lead with just over a minute left in the game, and went on to win 72-69.
     
    Adams finished the game with a game-high 19 points, with senior John Brandl at 15. Junior Jared Rothmeier and senior Mike Hirsch had 12 and 10 points, respectfully.
     
    St. Mary’s moves to 3-2 overall and will host Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Dec. 21 at 2:30 p.m., and won’t play again until Jan. 2, 2014.
