One of the best ways to battle the arctic temperatures in December is to sit back with some hot chocolate and watch a good Christmas movie. Here are some of my favorites.

Out of all of the older, more classic Christmas movies, “It’s a Wonderful Life” is probably the best one. Second place definitely goes to “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” because I love Peanuts. Even though it’s not really a movie, it’s one of the best of the classics.

The 80s was a pretty good decade for Christmas movies. First of all, every person alive should see “A Christmas Story” because it’s hilarious. My favorite line is, “Fragile! Must be Italian.” Next up is “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” which I actually just saw for the first time the other day. I am a big fan of Chevy Chase and I loved it. But the best holiday movie from the 80s goes to “Die Hard,” because Bruce Willis is the man.

For some reason Christmas movies kept on getting better and better each decade, because the 90s had some of my all-time favorites. Of course, I have to mention “Die Hard 2,” because once again, Willis is the man. Another 90s favorite is “The Santa Clause,” because Tim Allen is hilarious. Next is “The Muppet Christmas Carol.” I have always loved the muppets and their humor, and this version of the Christmas Carol is definitely my favorite. But the best 90s film goes to “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2.” We might never know what happened to Macaulay Culkin, but he was gold in these movies. Some other favorites from the 90s include “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Jack Frost,” (the one with Michael Keaton.)

Finally, in the 2000s, “Elf,” “The Polar Express” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” are all tied for the best in the 2000s. But my all time favorite Christmas movie out of any decade has to be “Love Actually,” from 2003. It’s NOT a family-friendly Christmas movie by any means, but the film is brilliant and features an amazing cast.

So don’t be a cotton-headed ninny-muggins and spread some holiday spirit by watching a good movie this season.
