The Sleepy Eye Public boys basketball team lost its first game of the season on Nov. 26 where a defensive battle took place.

On the offensive end, both teams struggled to get anything going as there were multiple turnovers and lack of execution. That wasn’t the case for senior Brandon Polesky however, as he claimed 23 of the 51 points for the Indians along with recording eight rebounds, four assists and four steals on the night. Behind him was sophomore Austin Fischer who scored 10 points and made four rebounds.

But besides Polesky and Fischer, the rest of the Sleepy Eye team had a difficult game on the road.

“It’s tough to win when you shoot the ball as poorly as we did,” Indians Coach Brian Polesky said. “We expect to win when we hold a team under 60 points, but we struggled shooting all night.”

Sleepy Eye’s defense held its own up until the last couple of minutes when the Blackhawks pulled away with the lead. Madelia managed to shoot just slightly better than the Indians which was enough to take the game.

Senior Austin Trebesch had six points, two steals, and two assists while Spencer Weicherding scored five points with four steals. Sophomore Isaiah Krumbach had two points and was just behind Brandon Polesky in rebounds with seven.
