Each month, the Sleepy Eye Lions Club chooses two students as Students of the Month. Jamie Fischer and Mary Rosenhammer were chosen for November.

School Activities

Mary: Throughout high school at St. Mary’s, Mary has participated in various sports including basketball, track, cross country and the dance team. In addition to sports, Mary has also taken part in the high school musicals.

Jamie: At Sleepy Eye High School, Jamie has participated in softball and FFA, where she currently holds the title of vice president of the chapter and previous held the title of treasurer, as well as National Honor Society.

Community Involvement

Jamie: In the community Jamie has been part of the local 4-H club as the reporter and treasurer and is involved in her church. She also works on the family farm raising and managing her own herd of steers.

Mary: In the community, Mary is the president of Stark Happy Hustler’s 4-H club and an active member of FFA where she participates on the dairy judging team. She is also a Brown County Dairy Ambassador and volunteers in her church. She serves part-time in the National Guard.

Personal Values and Strengths

Mary: Personal values and strengths that Mary feels will help her succeed are her leadership skills combined with strong determination and the responsibility to complete tasks and strive to reach above the standards set forth for her.

Jamie: The personal values and strengths that Jamie believes will help her succeed include the importance of hard work and kindness to the people she works with and those around her.

Greatest Influence in Life

Jamie: The person that Jamie feels has the greatest influence in her life is her parents who have taught her important qualities to be successful.

“My parents have always encouraged me to do my best at everything I do,” Jamie said.

Mary: The greatest influence in Mary’s life has been Stacy Tauer, her Confirmation sponsor.

“She has helped me realize how important it is to always stay true to yourself and never lose yourself in the journey of life’s tests,” Mary said.

Post-Graduation Plans

Mary: After high school, Mary plans to obtain a bachelor’s degree from South Dakota State University in agricultural education as well as fulfilling her military contract honorably.

Jamie: Following graduation Jamie plans to attend South Dakota State University to study agricultural engineering or agribusiness.
