The Sleepy Eye Herald Dispatch - Sleepy Eye, MN
  • Lots to be thankful for

  • With Thanksgiving less than a week away as I write this, I can't help but reflect on all that I have to be thankful for. I am thankful for my health, my family and friends, the freedoms we have in America, the warm welcome I have received from Sleepy Eye as the Chamber director and for volunteers.

  • With Thanksgiving less than a week away as I write this, I can't help but reflect on all that I have to be thankful for. I am thankful for my health, my family and friends, the freedoms we have in America, the warm welcome I have received from Sleepy Eye as the Chamber director and for volunteers.
As a membership organization we are so dependent on volunteers and businesses giving time and monetary donations to support the Chamber's efforts of a vibrant and healthy business community. We live in a world of constantly being in work mode because we can be called, e-mailed or receive texts at any time and we have to be ready to act. With that it can be difficult to balance work, family life and community spirit when we are pulled in so many directions. We can get lost in it all.
I am thankful for everyone who finds the time, or more likely makes time, for the Sleepy Eye Chamber of Commerce on any level they serve. I am thankful for the strong belief in Sleepy Eye and the Chamber members for their community pride and spirit and for how a community of our size can support and encourage a wide range of public and private efforts.
It is easy to get caught up in the material things of life and trying to keep up with the Joneses, but Thanksgiving is an opportunity to stop and reflect on the blessings we have. A quote by Oprah Winfrey explains it best, "Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough."
