This month the Sleepy Eye FFA has chosen to feature Harley Braun, Jacob Rossbach, Emily Mack and Officer of the Month Jamie Fischer.

    Members of the Month
Harley Braun is a sophomore who has participated in FFA for the past four years. She said she joined FFA because she wanted to be involved in activities with her friends and learn new things. Harley’s favorite activity in FFA is the FFA Lock-In. She’s looking forward to participating in as many different camps and activities as she can this year.

An award that Harley is most proud of is the Greenhand Degree.

“I have learned so many different things about animals, plants and ag careers,” Harley said.

Jacob Rossbach has been in FFA for the past three years and is a sophomore. He joined FFA, he said, because his dad is a farmer and he wanted to learn more about the aspects of agriculture.

He is on the poultry and national quiz bowl CDE teams. Jacob said what he enjoys about the CDE poultry team is the knowledge he has gained.

“It’s fun to learn more about chickens and their products.”

His favorite FFA Activity is the FFA Lock-In and something he’s looking forward to this year in the National Convention in Louisville, Ky.

He said his time in FFA has broadened his scope of knowledge.

“I have learned that there is more to agriculture than farming. There are numerous areas and careers in agriculture.”

An award that Jacob is most proud of earning in FFA is the Freshman Top Scholar.

Emily Mack is a sophomore who has participated in FFA for the past three years. She said she joined FFA to see her friends and to do fun activities. Her favorite activities include the lock-in and dances.

Something Emily is looking forward to most this year is landscaping, helping others and doing crop samples, something she said she has learned through FFA and also how to help others.

An award Emily is most proud of earning in FFA is the Greenhand degree.

    Officer of the Month
Jamie Fischer is a senior who has participated in FFA for the past six years. She said she joined FFA because it is an organization her family has been active in at some point in their life. She currently holds the office of vice president and said she likes the sense of responsibility she gets from holding that office.

“My officer position takes on a lot of responsibilities, as I am there to assist our president at all times,” Jamie said. “This position, like most positions, is very fun, as we can be involved in FFA.”

She is on the poultry CDE team and is excited for the chance to compete at the national competition. In addition, her favorite FFA activities are attending the officer workshops.

Something Jamie is looking forward to is joining a new CDE team.

“I have been on Poultry for three years and I can’t wait to try something different.”

Jamie said being involved in FFA has helped develop her leadership skills. Awards she is most proud of include Star Greenhand, Blue and Gold Award and earning a first place individual finish for CDE Poultry.
