  • Each year the VFW Auxiliary holds an essay contest for students in grades six through eight to write about patriotism. Each year the theme is chosen by state officials. This year’s theme was “What Patriotism Means to Me.”

  • Each year the VFW Auxiliary holds an essay contest for students in grades six through eight to write about patriotism. Each year the theme is chosen by state officials. This year’s theme was “What Patriotism Means to Me.”
     
    Six students from the three Sleepy Eye schools were awarded first and second place.
     
    he three first place winners received a check for $75 each, read their essays at the Veteran’s Day program at the Servicemen’s Club on Veterans Day and will have their essays entered into competition at the state level.
     
    Second place winners received a check for $50 each.
