  • In just a couple of weeks, the Sleepy Eye Retail Association will have Santa crown a new Little Miss and Mr. Holiday.
Third grade students from all three Sleepy Eye schools should have received a letter inviting them to participate in this fun Christmas event.
As the new Little Miss and Mr. Holiday, the two will take on a year's commitment to be good will youth ambassadors for Sleepy Eye. The couple is present at the Chamber's Annual Meeting in January. They ride with Miss Sleepy Eye and her attendants during parades throughout the summer. Little Miss and Mr. Holiday also have an appearance during the Eagles Easter egg hunt. And, one of their final appearances is the annual Buttered Corn Days in August.
As you can see, they play an important role for the Retail Association and it allows them a fun way to represent the community they live in to kids their age.
To begin the evening they are crowned, Santa arrives compliments of the Sleepy Eye Fire Department aboard a shinney red fire truck. The firemen escort Santa and the current Little Miss and Mr. Holiday to Wooldrik Park. To signify the beginning of the Christmas holiday, Santa lights the Christmas lights that adorn the park. Once that is done, off they go to the Sleepy Eye Community Center to have Supper with Santa sponsored by VOA, Sleepy Eye Campus.
Santa, the jolly elf that he is, visits with everyone who is present at the event and listens to children tell him what they have on their wish list for Christmas.
Children who come to Supper with Santa also receive two free books they can pick out themselves from hundreds of choices.
Once supper is almost done, Santa gathers the children together and calls the names of the boys who wanted to vi for Little Mr. Holiday. All the names go in a hat and Santa than draws a name. That boy is than the new Little Mr. Holiday.
Once Little Mr. Holiday has been crowned, Santa calls the names of each girl who wanted to vi for Little Miss Holiday and again Santa draws the name of the new Little Miss Holiday.
From there, photos are taken and a great time is had by all!
We hope if you have a third grader, you will encourage them to participate in the Little Miss and Mr. Holiday event. They won't be disappointed in their year-long adventure.
