Shirley Callanan, age 76, of Sleepy Eye, died on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
Shirley Callanan, age 76, of Sleepy Eye, died on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. Visitation will be on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday from 7:30 until 9:30 a.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye Chapel. Service will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 at 10 a.m. The clergy will be Father Aaron Johanneck. Interment will be at the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. On line condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
Shirley Ann Callanan was born on June 15, 1937 in Lakota, Iowa, the daughter of William and Rose (Miller) Joos. She graduated from Elmore High School and DeLyles Academy with a degree in Cosmetology. She worked in New Ulm, where she met Richard Callanan. Shirley and Richard were married on November 8, 1958 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. The couple lived in Sleepy Eye where Shirley raised their five children. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and Morning Glory Extension Club. Shirley enjoyed the game of golf.
She is survived by her husband, Richard “Coke” Callanan of Sleepy Eye; children, Thomas Callanan of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mary (Jim) Schaufler of Hutchinson, Patrick (Sandra) Callanan of Plymouth, Lisa Callanan of McFarland, Wisc., and Daniel (Theresa) Callanan of River Falls, Wisc.; grandchildren, Anna and Ruby Schaufler, Tina and Ally Callanan, and Mya Callanan; and a sister, June Henry of Portland, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
