Four teams from the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter traveled to Sherburn on Tuesday, Oct. 15 to compete in the Regional Career Development Events (CDE) competition.
Three of the four teams have earned a trip to the state competition to be held in 2014.
The teams competing were the Poultry Team, Forestry Team, Soils Team and the Horse Team. CDE helps students develop the skills to think critically and communicate clearly, as well as perform effectively in a competitive job market. Students put to the test what they learned in the classroom in a competitive, yet educational manner.
The Poultry Team placed third in their competition and will advance to the state competition. Team members include Jeni Kotten, Justin Kotten, Kolten Nienhaus, Jacob Rossbach and Sarah Rossbach. Three members of the team placed in the top 15 individually, including Kolten Nienhaus (fifth place), Sarah Rossbach (10th place) and Justin Kotten (11th place).
The Forestry Team also earned a spot in the state competition by placing fifth in the region. Team members include Tanisha Goblirsch, Ashley Helget, Karrah Remus and Donovan Wells. Leading the team by placing 11th overall was Donovan Wells.
The Soils Team will also advance to state competition by earning a fifth place finish in the region competition as well. Team members include Austin Fischer, Danny Fischer, Matthew Miller, Hunter Rose and Austin Trebesch. Danny Fischer led the way for the team, placing 12th individually.
The Horse Team placed 11th at the regional competition. The Horse Team consisted of McKayla Aschenbrenner, McKenzie Cselovszki, Courtney Engholm, Cheyenne Garness and CristalRose Longoria. McKenzie Cselovszki was the highest scorer on the team.
The state competition will take place at the Minnesota State FFA Convention in April 2014, for these CDE teams.
