  • Well, it’s official. The regular season is now over for high school fall sports, which means it’s time for playoffs.

For a couple of sports, the section playoff games already came and went. Sleepy Eye tennis is now done, after last Thursday’s individual section tournament. All of the girls did pretty well, and a shout-out definitely goes to Kalyn Haas, who made it all the way to the quarterfinal round. Congrats to the Wildcats for having a great season. It was fun to watch them improve from match to match, and they will undoubtedly only get better, as the whole team is pretty young.

The New Ulm/Sleepy Eye soccer scene also came to an end last week, after the girls team lost 1-5 to St. Peter in the section quarterfinals while the boys team lost 2-4 to Worthington in the second round. The U.S. still has a long way to go, but it seems as though soccer is becoming more and more popular here so I hope it continues to grow in the local scene as well.

I want to let readers know that I won’t include the sports schedule in the section for a few weeks, now that only one or two playoff games will take place each week until winter sports season. It will be back in November once basketball season begins. But don’t fret, because you can still find out when and where each team plays next, as I will include them in my stories for the respective teams each week. You can also always go to mshsl.org (Minnesota State High School League) to find out the playoff schedules, or follow me on Twitter (@Chris_SEsports) for playoff updates as well. For now, volleyball subsections will take place on Oct. 21 at the high seeds, while the football section quarterfinals will be the next day, Oct. 22 at the high seed team fields.
