  • SE FFA trapshoot team earns third at state

  • On Saturday, Sept. 28, the Sleepy Eye FFA Trapshoot Team competed at the State Shoot in Marshall.
     
    While practicing the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship, ethical behavior and safe and responsible use of the firearms, the Sleepy Eye Trapshoot team had a fantastic season and had a great conclusion to the season at the State Shoot.
     
    “The team really worked together to achieve success and pulled together to help each other out with their equipment and shooting strategies,” said parent volunteer, Christi Gemmill.
     
    Team members who competed include: Colton Gemmill, Caleb Berg, Collin Hillmer, Parker Neid, Carter Tauer and John Rosenhammer.
     
    There were two parts to the competition: Trapshoot and Sporting Clays. For the Trapshoot competition, there were 267 competitors and 59 teams. Colton Gemmill was the top shooter from Sleepy Eye, placing 34th with an individual score of 36 out of 50. Caleb Berg also had 36. Collin Hillmer had 26, Parker Neid had 25, Carter Tauer had 18 and John Rosenhammer had 16. The team score was 123, which led to the team placing 19th out of 59 teams.
     
    For the Sporting Clay competition, there were 198 competitors and 43 teams. The team placed third out of 43 teams. Carter Tauer was the top shooter on the team, placing fourth individually with a score of 43 out of 50. Gemmill came close behind, placing seventh with an individual score of 41. Caleb Berg placed 13th with a score of 38 and Collin Hillmer placed 39th with a score of 35.
