  • Believe it or not, the high school fall sports season is quickly coming to a close, and I’m not ready for it to be over.

Every sport will have its final regular season events next week. Of course, teams will continue to play as section playoffs begin, but it’s still pretty crazy how fast the season went by. It seems like yesterday when I was out covering summer baseball games.

Thankfully, the NFL will still be here so we can continue watching football. I think the NFL season should be during the winter. Most of us can agree that the best NFL games to watch are the ones when teams play in an outdoor stadium in blizzard conditions. I’m proud to say I’ll be going to a Packer game at historic Lambeau Field in late December and I hope there is a huge snow storm while I’m there.

Speaking of storms, Sleepy Eye was hit with some pretty good thunderstorms last week which was pretty exciting. I love any type of storm. The best part is when the power goes out. I was happy when I found out how easily the power goes out in Sleepy Eye. It’s pretty ridiculous how much we depend on electricity these days. Everyone seems to freak out whenever the power goes out but I love it. It brings people together when the power goes out because there aren’t any TVs or computers or sound systems to distract us. I’m a big user of technology, but I also believe it’s sort of ruining the way we interact with people. With no power, humans can actually have a face-to-face conversation for once and families can break out the old board games that they rarely play anymore.

And the best part is, you can always talk sports! And there is much to talk about right now. The NHL season is underway, the Minnesota Lynx are in the WNBA finals, and the Vikings signed a new quarterback. Hopefully this will be the answer for the Vikings.
