  • First year members, officers attend Region VI FFA Greenhand Day, chaper officer workshop.

  • First-year FFA members and chapter officers from around the area gathered at the Region VI FFA Greenhand Day and chapter officer workshop on Wednesday, Sept. 25 in Mountain Lake. The main purpose of the workshop was to educate first year members, known as Greenhands, about opportunities in FFA.
     
    The day camp was conducted by the Region VI Officer Team and this year’s theme was “Light the Fuse.” The Minnesota State FFA Reporter, Brandon Roiger of the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter, was the keynote speaker. Roiger, with the help of State President Mallory Pagel, also conducted the chapter officer workshop, where chapter officers participated in activities stressing the importance of working together, good communication and promoting FFA.
     
    Tiffany Ludewig, of the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter, was one of the Region VI officers who were conducting the Greenhand Day event. She is the Region VI Sentinel for 2013-14.
     
    Greenhand members attended different workshops throughout the day where they learned about the basics of the National FFA Organization, such as official dress, FFA history, camps, setting goals, Career Development Events (CDE) and Supervised Agricultural Experience projects.
     
    Sleepy Eye brought 34 Greenhand members including Caleb Berg, Holly Helget, Melissa Kral, Sarah Rossbach, Mckayla Ashenbrenner, Zoe Macklanburg, Lane Trebesch, Brennon Helget, Tyrah Stoll, Cassidy Hacker, Courtney Engholm, Alex Gerasch, Colton Gemmill, Sam Tessmer, Ashley Garza, Miguel Martinez, Brandon Hoffman, Joel Montemayor, Mackenzie Trebesch, Saul Ibarra, Juan Montemayor, Sam Walter, Tristin Todd, Trisha Martinez, Tyler Weicherding, Tanisha Goblirsch, Isabella Portner, Molly Helget, Allie Helget, Johnny Rosenhammer, Natalie Sellner, Nathen Wendinger, Cory Schumacher and Lucas Windschitl.
     
    Chapter officers who attended were Miranda McMullen, Bethany Seifert, Ashley Johnson, Jordyn Domeier, Sabrina Portner, Chris Linan, Kacie Goblirsch, Steph Hammerschmidt, Lauren Laffen, Jeni Kotten, Matt Miller and Josie Schieffert.
     
    Several advanced members also conducted three of the 10 CDE presentations and assisted in the official dress presentation. These members included Kolten Nienhaus, Erin Kotten, Marisa Martinez, Justin Kotten, Jennifer Sanchez, Alex Bruggeman, Kaylee Hillmer, Natalie Konopka and Harley Braun. Josie Schieffert also presented the FFA Creed for the over 550 FFA members in attendance and Bethany Seifert sang and played the guitar for the FFA talent performance.
     
    At the end of the day, the Greenhand members were fired up and ready to participate in activities the FFA has to offer for this upcoming year. The officers were ready to use their teamwork skills and work together throughout the school year to accomplish their goals.
