Public invited to take part in Day of Caring

The first session for ECFE toddlers will be Thursday, Oct. 3, 6-7:15 p.m. in Room 318 at Sleepy Eye Elementary School. Toddlers are busy people, but we have found the fall class is quite quiet since everything is so new and they usually play by themselves. But by spring classes, the group is very talkative and no longer quiet! This class is open to any child who turned one by Sept. 1. Parents and children stay in the same room the entire time.

We also have a group of parents with new babies coming to a discussion scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, at 9:30 a.m. There is room for others to join this group.

Early Childhood Screening will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10 with appointments open between 10:30 a.m. and 12 noon at this time. The early appointments beginning at 8:30 a.m. are very full. Children who will be four by Dec. 31 are invited to participate in this fall date, as well as any who have moved into the district and not had it done. It is held at Trinity Lutheran Church basement.

The first Knitting classes for fall will be on Friday, Oct. 4, 3:30-5 p.m. in Room 109. Other dates chosen for this fall are Oct. 11 and 25, as well as Nov. 1. So bring your projects, questions and unfinished items to work on if you have. If you would like to start knitting, just bring a set of number 8 needles, as we have yarn and patterns.

The next All Day Quilting class will be on Saturday, Oct. 12 beginning at 8 a.m. and going to 4 p.m. It is also the Day of Caring for our community. A team is being formed and there are usually a few projects to do in Sleepy Eye. The more people involved, the quicker the projects get done. Call if you are interested in helping give back to the community.

The Computer Skills training class continues to meet on Mondays, 3:30-5:30 p.m. in Room 108 in Sleepy Eye High School. It covers how to apply for jobs using e-mail, where to find jobs online, how to use a word document to make your resume and cover letter and putting it all together online using Learner Web. This offering is provided free through the Mankato Adult Basic Education of which Sleepy Eye is a member.

Many had requested the Community Calendar of school activities that had been prepared for many years. With many changes in dates for activities, it was finally completed last week. It includes the varsity activities for our schools, concert dates and some special events that are school related. Junior high schedules can be found on the school websites or the Tomahawk Conference site. Copies have been distributed to various outlets and it is available in the school offices. Let us know if you want a copy.

An 8 hour first time 55 Alive/Mature Driving class is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12 beginning at 8 a.m. The end time will be determined by how many are enrolled as a smaller class will take less time to complete the material, whereas a large class will need more time. The next 4-hour renewal will be Monday, Nov. 4, at 5:30 p.m.
