This week is completely different from last week. I mainly spent all of last week playing video games, specifically GTA 5, since almost all of the Sleepy Eye sporting events were away games. It was a nice week to relax, but I knew this week would be the complete opposite because of both schools celebrating their homecoming.
I remember homecoming being a pretty big deal back in my high school days. Pep rallies, dress up days, royalty coronation, the dance, the big football game. My favorite event was marching in the homecoming parade with the band.
On Sept. 27, both schools will have their homecoming football games. The Indians will host Martin County West, while the Knights will host the rival Greyhounds. It was a little unfortunate that both homecomings fell on the same week this year, because I will have to jump from one game to the other. This week would have been a perfect week to have a clone.
However, I won’t need a clone on Sept. 26, as Sleepy Eye Public will be hosting St. Mary’s for another cross town volleyball game. It should be fun to watch, especially since it’s during homecoming week and the Indians want revenge from the 1-3 loss last time.
Speaking of volleyball, the annual “Dig Pink” fundraisers to fight breast cancer will be held next week. This year both Sleepy Eye volleyball teams will have their own “Dig Pink” night at their respective schools. The Indians will have theirs on Oct. 1 when they host New Ulm Cathedral, while the Knights will hold theirs on Oct. 3 when they host Wabasso. There will be activities before and after the games, including silent auctions, pink floats, pink cookies, and more! So be sure to come out and support breast cancer research, as well as the Sleepy Eye volleyball teams! Should be a fun couple of nights.
