As part of our concerted efforts to connect with our community members, we started a new T Time with the Superintendent event. Every second Tuesday at 10 a.m. we present various school related topics so that our local citizens better understand all the new and exciting things we do in the school. The presentations take place in the Lindahl room. We plan on talking about new and current initiatives, school funding and discuss other programming that our school is involved in. The past week I invited Mr. Troy Vangness to share information about our iPad initiative. We recorded the presentation and plan on putting it on the local public access channel so that people who have not had time to attend the presentation can watch it on TV. The next presentation will take place Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. We plan do a SMARTBOARD presentation in the kindergarten class. Mr. Weicherding was gracious enough to allow us to visit his room and observe him and the students interacting with the SMARTBOARD. I am sure the activity will be a treat for all of us, so come on in and join us.
The elementary PBIS team is also planning another community outreach program by offering a community wide walk around Sleepy Eye Lake on Friday morning, Sept. 27. We are planning to take all of our elementary students to this event. Students will leave the school at 8:30 a.m. Parents and community members are encouraged to join us either at school or at Allison Park by 8:45 a.m. The students will eat lunch in Allison Park so I recommend to all those adults who are planning to join in, to bring a sack lunch as well. There will be face painting available for our students to participate in so that they can get ready for the afternoon pep fest in the HS gym. The PBIS team’s goal is to promote community engagement and reinforce our Sleepy Eye Pride with this event.
I have one more bit of great news to share with our readers as well. Our Early Childhood Program applied for a grant in late August. We just received notification that we received the Early Scholarship Pathway grant for $25,000. We are very pleased with this since we believe that reaching our students early will provide a great boost toward success in later years.
In closing, it’s a privilege to serve your children and provide a well-rounded education opportunity for them. We have wonderful teachers on staff who will make your children excited about education.
