55 Alive class scheduled for Oct. 1
A number of grants were written in August dealing with Early Childhood Family Education. The program already received the Parent Aware designation. This means a state approved curriculum is used in our School Readiness classroom and the teachers have been trained in curriculum and assessment. Another grant was written for Early Learning Scholarships as one of the schools in Region 9 that had funding available. That was also approved and will add some days to our School Readiness year. More publicity will be coming from the Minnesota State Department of Education on the details of this program.
Preschools have started for the year and the children have settled into a routine fairly easy. Upcoming classes for two years olds will start on Monday, Sept. 23, 6-7:30 p.m. for nine sessions. Toddlers are planned for Thursdays, 6-7:15 p.m. beginning Thursday, Oct. 3 for six sessions this fall. We use the child’s birthday as of Sept. 1 when choosing which class to attend as it keeps children and families together until they are ready to start kindergarten.
Early Childhood Screening will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10 with appointments open between 10 a.m. and 12 noon at this time. Children who will be 4 by Dec. 31 are invited to participate in this fall date, as well as any who have moved into the district and not had it done.
ECFE Newsletters were mailed out last week or given to parents who attended the open house events. If you did not receive one, please call and we will get one to you. An additional item that residents may want is the newest babysitting list that was put together last month.

The Community Education office is located in Room 109 of the Sleepy Eye High School.
