On Sept. 21, 2008, Sleepy Eye native Kristin Gluth died in a motorcycle accident. To help celebrate her life and make an impact in the lives of others, Kristin's mother, Brenda Gluth, and aunt, Tracy Bertrand, have sponsored a memorial ride for the past five years.
Proceeds from the ride are donated to various organizations in Minnesota. Proceeds from last year's ride were donated recently. The family donated $1,000 to the Avon First Responders who were on the scene that day.
Money from year's ride was also donated to the Sleepy Eye Medical Center where Kristin's name is placed on a plaque at the hospital in Sleepy Eye where she was born. I
In addition, proceeds every year go to the Cosmetology school in Mankato where Kristin attended in the form of a scholarship.
The memorial ride this year will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14 beginning in Cobden at the Ridin' High Saloon where the riders also visit Searles, Nicollet, Lafayette, Kristin's gravesite at Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye and arrive back in Cobden where a meal is served for all riders and a raffle is held.
For more information about the ride look for posters in various local businesses in the Sleepy Eye area.
