Sign up for Old Log Theatre trip

A number of people saw the fall listing of Community Education events that was included in the Aug. 26 edition of the Brown County Reminder. Calls have been coming every hour the past week to sign up for classes and events. If you desire more details, please do not hesitate to call. Open house for Discovery Time will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 6-7:30 p.m. in Room 320 in the Sleepy Eye Elementary School. These classes for three-year-olds are currently filled. Discovery Time classes begin on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Parents participate in ECFE classes as well, which start on Tuesday, Sept. 17 for this age group.

ECFE classes planned so far are:

Three- to five-year-olds on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 17 for nine sessions. Times are 9-10:30 a.m., 4:30-6 p.m. or 6:30-8 p.m.

Two-year-olds will begin on Monday, Sept. 23, 6-7:30 p.m. for nine sessions.

Toddlers are planned for Thursdays, 6-7:15 p.m. beginning Thursday, Oct. 3 for six sessions this fall.

55 Alive Mature Driving renewal classes are starting to fill. The first classes will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 5:30-9:30 p.m. or Tuesday, Oct. 1, 1-5 p.m.

A Computer Skills class is scheduled for Mondays at 3:30 p.m. starting Sept. 9. It will include e-mail, online job search, Microsoft Office and Learner Web. A Computer Skills tutor can be lined up as well. This option is held once a week for two hours.

Quilting classes will be held the second Saturday of the month with the first one on Sept. 14 in the Lindahl Room from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The next outing needing attention is for Wednesday, Sept. 25. The host from the Old Log Theatre has scheduled some comedies at the Bloomington Eagles Club. The first one is “Last Train to Nibroc” and includes a noon luncheon. Sign-up is needed by Sept. 17.

Renaissance Festival discount tickets are available in this office. They are $5 less than the gate price and can be used until the last weekend of September.

V.I.P. passes for senior citizens in the school district to attend home athletic events have been popular. The first home events they can be used for are volleyball on Thursday, Sept. 5 or football on Friday, Sept. 6.

T-Time (second Tuesdays at 10 a.m.) will begin on Sept. 10. A discussion on iPads in the classroom will be held in the Lindahl Room with Mrs. Backer. Come for a cup of coffee and be informed on how technology is being used. An RSVP is not necessary but would be helpful in determining the room set-up. Call 794-7873. Enter Door #2.

The Community Education office is located in Room 109 of the Sleepy Eye High School. School day hours are generally 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Since staff is part-time, they may not always be in the building.
