The Sleepy Eye Public volleyball team has won its first two games to kick off its season.
On Aug. 27, the Indians were able to triumph on the road as they defeated Truman 25-19, 24-26, 25-14, 25-23.
“It was a great way to start out our season,” Sleepy Eye Coach Nicole Jensen said. “We saw the court well and really tried to pick apart their defense. We need to improve on staying intense the entire game. The girls worked hard and played through the heat.”
It was a total team effort by the Indians. Claire Krumbach recorded 16 kills while Jamie Wells had four kills and nine aces to lead the offense. Meanwhile, Justine Gonzales had five kills, 15 set assists, and one ace. Miranda McMullen had 14 set assists of her own. Finally, Josie Schieffert had three kills and four aces to further lead Sleepy Eye to the victory.
On Aug. 29, the Indians were able to win another away game, as they defeated Martin Luther in three straight commanding sets, 25-20, 25-20, 25-18.
Sleepy Eye will have its first home game of the season on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. against Springfield. Next, the Indians will host an invitational on Sept. 7 in which eight area teams will compete. The team will then face the cross town team of St. Mary’s on Sept. 10.
